Dedrick Iverson

Dedrick “Dick” Iverson was born on Oct. 18, 1937, to Malla and Dedrick Iverson in Williston N.D. He proudly rode his stick-horse to attend 1st and 2nd grade at the Elk School, before attending Williston Public School and graduating from Alexander Public School in 1955. He attended Concordia College and received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Chemistry. He was drafted into the Army in 1961, and completed his Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood in Mo., where he was a member of the rifle drill team. Utilizing his college degree, he was stationed at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. working in the hospital lab. With his father having medical issues, Dick received an Honorable Discharge to return to North Dakota to run the ranch.
Dick’s life changed for the better in the spring of 1966, when after bowling in Fairview, Mont., his future brother-in-law introduced him to a young School teacher, Janice Borntragor. They were married (in true Norwegian fashion) during a blizzard on Dec. 18, 1967, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview, Mont.
The two most important relationships in Dicks life were his relationships with God and family. He steadfastly served those two relationships by excelling in his two greatest passions in life: Charolais and Quarter Horses. A true cowboy, he built a successful cattle ranch which provided many blessings for his wife, sons, and extended family and allowed him to serve in the community.
It has been said that Dick was a man of few words. That may be true, but the words he did speak had meaning and purpose as he was never one to boast, swear, or denigrate anyone or anything. He was never one to pass up a friendly conversation through the pickup window on the side of the road or over coffee and donuts after church.
Dick faithfully served on the Trinity Church Council, Alexander School Board, Arnegard/Alexander Soil Conservation District and was a board member for many years in the Mon-Dak Quarter Horse Association. Other memberships included the North Dakota Stockman’s Association, the Alexander Lions Club, and the American International Charolais Association.
Dick is survived in death by his wife, Janice; sons, Matt (Ann Goodrich) of Alexander, and Scott (Lori) Iverson of Columbus, Ohio; sisters: Darlene Kinsey and Opal Smith, both of Williston, N.D.; grand daughters, Alexis Iverson of Fargo, N.D., Maddisyn Iverson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Morgan Iverson of Columbus, Ohio.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Dedrick and Malla Iverson.
