David Vick

David R. “Dave” Vick, 81, of Watertown, S.D., passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Prairie Lakes Hospital.
David Richard Vick, son of Arthur and Anne (Sundfor) Vick was born on May 31, 1937, in Watford City, N.D. He grew up in Banks, N.D., attending country school and graduated from Watford City High School. Dave received his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering at NDSU.
On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Joan Solberg in Erskine, Minn.
Dave worked for 3M Company in St. Paul, Minn., and then was transferred with 3M to Schenectady, N.Y. He returned to St. Paul and continued to work for 3M for a short time. Dave was then employed by Control Data in St. Paul. He was transferred with Control Data to Cambridge, Minn., Aberdeen, S.D., and then to Portugal. Dave and Joan lived in the suburb of Lisbon, Portugal for two years from Jan. of 1987 to Dec. of 1989. They then moved to Omaha, Neb. The couple purchased a motel/convenience store in Barnesville, Minn., naming it “Barnesville Inn and C-Store” which they operated for eight years, retiring in 1998. From there they returned to Aberdeen and lived there for 13 years before moving to Watertown.
Dave enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, hunting, fishing and traveling. Dave and Joan also enjoyed wintering in South Padre, Texas for 16 years.
David is survived by his wife, Joan of Watertown; his sons, Mike (Jennifer) Vick of Watertown and Mark (Susan) Vick of Sioux Falls; his brother, Kenneth (Ruth) Vick of Loveland, Colo.; one sister, Margaret (Dallas) Nelson of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Pat Vick of Fargo, N.D., and Vi Vick of Billings, Mont.; a brother-in-law, Harvey Thompson of Minnetonka, Minn.; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marie Joan Vick; three brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Monday, April 8, 2019, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. Reverend Dan Ofstehage officiated. Brenna Erickson was the soloist accompanied by Chuck Parsons.
Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2019, at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Burial was at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Union Lake Cemetery, near Winger, Minn. Pastor Scott Baker officiated.
Pallbearers were Paul Vick, Scott Trandem, Dan Vick, David Johnson, Doug Kranz and Jeannie Young.
