Dale Karpyak

Dale Eugene Karpyak, 67, of Menoken, N.D., and Watford City, N.D.,  passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 2, 2020.
Dale was born to Adam and Lydia (Jore) Karpyak on Dec. 26, 1952, in Watford City. Dale attended school in Watford City and graduated from high school in 1970. Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1972.
Dale and Vicki Harmon were married on Aug. 10, 1974, in Watford City, where they lived and raised their three children. They recently purchased a home east of Bismarck, N.D., where they intended to live out their next adventures.
Dale was a machinist, a skill he inherited from his father. There was very little he couldn’t build or “fix.” He also had a passion for cars, specifically classic cars. He always had a project in the works. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and taught his children and grandchildren to ride mini-bikes, 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers as a rite of passage. It was almost a full-time job keeping everything running. Each Thursday morning in the summer Dale could be found at the golf course golfing in the Old Farts League, enjoying a not too competitive game of golf and connecting with friends. Dale loved to sail and purchased a sailboat which he sailed at Fort Stevenson. Dale and Vicki enjoyed the lake life and own a lake home at Tobacco Gardens Bay, where they spent countless hours entertaining and enjoying friends and family.
Dale loved his community and his country. He served on the City Council and was chairman of the building committee when the Veterans Building was constructed. Dale served as a Sunday School teacher for several years and was currently a member of the American Legion Post No. 29 Drill Team.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Myrna Ayres; and father-in-law, Roger Harmon.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki; daughters, Shaleesha and children, Josh, Alydia, Chandler, Dominic, Marisol and Sophie, Lindsay (Chris) Schroeder, and their children, Olivia, Ella, Audra and Mya, and son, Adam (Susan) and children, Jameson and Eden; great-grandchildren, Deegan, Eliana, Lucca, Della, Djuna, Camden, Piper and Aubree; parents-in-law, David and Donna Lou Sanford and Phyllis Harmon; sister, JoAnne (Dale) Garmann; brothers, Steve (Linda), Joe and Bryon; sister-in-law Tanya (Larry) Andersen; brothers-in-law, Jay Sanford, Steve (Laura) Sanford, Roger (Wanda) Harmon and Brian (Norly) Harmon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Dale were held Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at First Lutheran Church in Watford City, with Pastor Rob Favorite and Pastor Mark Honstein officiating. Interment was in the Schafer Cemetery, Watford City, under the care of the Fulkerson-Stevenson Funeral Home of Watford City.
