Avis Berg

Avis Berg, 88, a longtime Williston area resident, most recently of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Watford City, passed away at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home early Friday morning, April 18, 2014.
Her funeral was celebrated Tuesday morning, April 22, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston. Rev. Kay Reeb officiated, interment followed in the Riverview Cemetery.
Avis Irene Berg was born April 20, 1925 in Columbus, N.D. to Silas and Signe (Johansen) Anderson.
Avis was baptized into the Lutheran Faith in Columbus, N.D. and was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wildrose, N.D. Avis was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid.
Avis started first grade at the Satrom School in Wildrose, N.D., and finished the eighth grade at the New Home School District 8. Avis worked as a waitress at some of the local cafes and as a telephone operator in Williston, N.D.
On March 19, 1946, Avis was united in marriage to R. Duane Berg, who was serving in the U.S. Navy, in Enumclaw, Wash. by Pastor C.B. Rundstrom. After Duane’s discharge from the service the couple made their home in Williston, N.D., and later moved to a farm in Blacktail Township. They would later move to a farm in Bonetrail where they would raise their family.
In later years, Avis and Duane enjoyed 15 winters in Mesa, Ariz., where they met many special friends.  They would spend their summers at Blacktail Dam until Duane’s death in 1993. Avis resided in Williston, N.D., until her health started to fail. She moved to the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City where she remained until her death.
Avis is survived by her four children, Robert (Glenda) Berg of rural Williston, Debra (Ralph) Skoglund of rural Watford City, Mike Berg of Grenora, and Steve (Deb) Berg of Rapid City, S.D.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean (Ted) Kaler of Williston and  Beverly Kulseth of Williston; brother, Vernon Anderson of Fort Morgan, Colo.; sister-in-law, Mary Moen of Seattle, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Duane Berg; daughter-in-law, Tammy Berg; brother, Raymond Anderson; sister, Harriet Rieder; parents, Signe and Silas Anderson; and mother and father-in-law, Einar and Rebecca Berg.
