Williston State College (WSC) is proud to announce the launch of its first two programs in the brand-new, state-of-the-art Healthcare Training Facility, opening in January 2026.

The Medical Assistant and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) programs mark the beginning of WSC’s healthcare expansion, designed to meet the growing regional demand for skilled professionals through hands-on, career-ready training right here in Williston.

“These programs represent the first step in a larger healthcare education expansion that will serve Northwest North Dakota for decades to come,” said Dr. Bernell Hirning, President of Williston State College. “Our new facility gives students the opportunity to learn with advanced equipment and real-world experiences, preparing them to make a difference in their communities immediately after graduation.”

The Medical Assistant Program is a one-year certificate that prepares students to perform both clinical and administrative duties within a medical office or healthcare setting. Students will complete an exam at the end of the program to become a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and have the option to add a Phlebotomy certification for additional career flexibility.

“This program is designed for students who want to work directly with patients and be at the heart of a clinical team,” said Tessa Van Doorne, MSN, RN, Medical Assistant Program Director. “Our goal is to build strong, confident professionals who are ready to contribute from day one - whether that’s in a clinic, hospital, or specialty office.”
