The Watford City High School theater was full of celebratory energy and community support last week as the Class of 2026 took center stage for the annual Senior Awards Night. The event, which highlights academic achievement, vocational excellence, and civic service, saw an unprecedented level of financial backing from local donors and organizations.

According to Senior Class Advisor Victoria Yahn, who served as Master of Ceremonies for the event, nearly 30 scholarship entities presented a combined total of $220,000 in immediate funding. That investment is projected to reach as high as $438,000 should the recipients meet the criteria for renewal throughout their post-secondary education. “We have a very generous community,” stated Amy Polivka, reflecting on the scale of the night’s awards.

The evening officially established the top academic honors for the graduating class. Thaydan Arnold was named Valedictorian for the Class of 2026, and Amelia Wisness was named Salutatorian. Beyond traditional classroom metrics, the ceremony highlighted the success of the Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) program, which bridges the gap between local education and the regional economy. Arnold was recognized for his contributions to the City of Watford City Engineering Department, while Wisness was honored for her developmental work with the Long X Arts Foundation. The recognition of these students demonstrates a growing trend of WCHS graduates entering the workforce with professional experience already on their resumes.
