The April meeting of the county’s Public Works subcommittee was a packed venue on April 13, with the big ticket topic being the county’s rate and fee update for organized townships. The subcommittee, lead by county engineer Grace Demars, presented the rate and fee proposal draft and included opportunities for feedback and discussion throughout the meeting with township board representatives from the majority of the county’s smallest body of government. Feedback included a central focus on cattle guard cleanings, culverts, and dust suppression. The current fee schedule consisted of one package with applicable fees. Demars added, “The maintenance per mile, per year fees are flat rate, but the rest of the rates (culvert replacement, cattle guard replacement, etc.) are only to be charged if the township wants the County to do that work for them and are on a per instance basis.”
