Pipeline Projects Aim to Keep Natural Gas Local

The Greater North Dakota Chamber hosted a weeklong infrastructure webinar series last week, with the first of five in the series focusing on North Dakota’s status as a reliable supplier of energy and plans to keep more natural gas at home.

Justin Kringstad, Director, North Dakota Pipeline Authority, Gavin McCollam, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Mark Anderson, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing, WBI Energy, Troy Walker, Dir. of Sales & Marketing, Dakota Carrier Network and Craig Stevens, Partner of the GAIN Coalition detailed how North Dakota’s energy landscape is shifting quickly and having adequate natural gas takeaway capacity strengthens the state’s ability to diversify its economy.

Kringstad emphasized that North Dakota is firmly on the production side of the national energy ledger, with North Dakota established as a “net exporter,” meaning the state produces more natural gas than it consumes, Kringstad said, adding that many states must rely on “states like North Dakota to provide them energy.” However, he adds there is a disconnect when getting natural gas to the eastern side of the state, with communities in the Red River Valley receiving natural gas from Alberta, Canada.
