North Dakota DOT updates travel map features

The North Dakota Department of Transportation Travel Map has been updated with some beneficial tools to help navigate state roadways, especially in winter.
Snowplows live-tracking
and dashboard cameras
The NDDOT’s snowplows statewide are now outfitted with public tracking and video screenshot feeds to help motorists be aware of what roads are being worked on. Users can select the icon for each plow and see three to four screenshots with timestamps, direction of travel, and vehicle speed. Each image offers a forward-facing view out the windshield of the plow to get a better, real-time look of road and weather conditions. As of 2026, the NDDOT has outfitted all 350 state plows with the camera and tracking system. The camera system in the plows was first implemented in September of 2023.
An important note is that our area is serviced by five DOT districts so one may notice the town identifier on the plow cameras and that indicates what district shop that plow is from (Watford City, New Town, Killdeer, Dickinson or Williston.)
