ND’s Cramer says Republicans enjoy moral high ground on government shutdown

The specter of a long government shutdown looms large as Congressional Republicans and Democrats remain locked in a bitter standoff, with the contentious “One Big Beautiful Bill” at the heart of the dispute.
The bill, a sweeping legislative package passed earlier this year with no Democrat votes, has become a flashpoint in negotiations, escalating tensions that threaten to temporarily halt federal operations. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Kevin Cramer (R-ND) recently spoke on AM 1090 The Flag’s “What’s On Your Mind” radio show, expressing confidence in their party’s position while dismissing Democratic threats to prolong the shutdown.
The origins of this conflict trace back to the passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a Republican-led reconciliation package that secured significant policy victories, including giving permanent status to the 2017 tax cuts, increased funding for border security, and measures to curb illegal immigration. The bill allocated funds to hire 9,000 additional Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and expanded detention bed capacity from 40,000 to 140,000, addressing what Republicans describe as a crisis at the southern border.
