For anyone living in McKenzie County, the local hospital is more than just a facility; it’s a lifeline for the community. Last week, our hometown facility received a major national nod. According to a recent press release, McKenzie Health has been named one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the U.S. by The Chartis Center for Rural Health. This ranking isn’t just a participation trophy, it’s an overview of how well a hospital handles everything from patient outcomes and safety, to its own financial health. “This achievement belongs to our dedicated team of caregivers, support staff, and leaders who work tirelessly every day,” said Pete Edis, CEO at McKenzie Health. He noted that while the award is a national honor, the real goal has always been to make sure high-quality care is available in our region.
The Chartis Center for Rural Health utilizes its Rural Hospital Performance INDEX to provide what is widely considered the industry’s most objective and comprehensive look at how rural facilities are actually faring. Now in its 16th year, this index pulls from publicly available data to evaluate everything from day-to-day operations and financial stability to the quality of care and the patient’s own perspective. Because it offers a transparent benchmark, the INDEX has become a go-to resource for state offices of rural health and hospital associations nationwide to monitor performance and ensure that rural communities are getting the high standard of care they deserve.
