The McKenzie County Food Pantry has been recognized as the runner-up for the 2024 Agency of the Year by the Great Plains Food Bank (GPFB), an impressive achievement among 69 pantries affiliated with GPFB in the region. This prestigious acknowledgment highlights the pantry’s dedication to combating hunger and its significant impact within the community, especially during a period of unprecedented demand.

“We are proud of our recent accomplishments of being able to serve our community where the need for services has been growing at a rapid pace the past 2-3 years without having a reduction in the services provided,” said Mitch Haugeberg, a representative of the McKenzie County Food Pantry. The award, presented at GPFB’s annual meeting, commends agencies that demonstrate exceptional ability to serve their communities and make a substantial impact on hunger relief.

For decades, a food pantry has operated in McKenzie County, with the McKenzie County Food Pantry being affiliated with the Great Plains Food Bank for the past 32 years. Its core mission: “The McKenzie County Food Pantry provides food and supplies to individuals and families in need. Through our efforts we strive to promote self-sufficiency and instill hope. We provide opportunities for volunteerism to community members.”
