Emergency management is a team effort, says Karolin Jappe. It is fitting, then, that Jappe has recently been recognized for her outstanding work by her peers across North Dakota. Karolin Jappe, McKenzie County’s Emergency Manager, has been selected for the prestigious NDEMA (North Dakota Emergency Management Association) Regional Emergency Management Spotlight Award, an honor she attributes to the extraordinary teamwork displayed during the challenging October 2024 wildfires and the recovery efforts that followed.
Jappe, who has served the county for eleven and a half years, shared that her initial reaction to the news was one of humility and gratitude. “I was very humbled. Emergency management is truly a team effort, and I don’t do this work expecting recognition,” Jappe said. “My first thought was gratitude - to my fellow Emergency Managers, our first responders, to my community and everyone who works alongside me in McKenzie County.”
