Hope on wheels: McKenzie County citizens to rally against suicide on June 28

Recently, the community of McKenzie County has endured the loss of several people due to suicide. These painful tragedies underscore a larger challenge. In the quiet corners of rural North Dakota, a silent struggle often goes unheard. While urban areas are no stranger to loss, the reality for our small communities can be starker, with suicide rates significantly higher in rural North Dakota (20.6 per 100,000) compared to urban areas (13.5 per 100,000), according to the ND HOPES Suicide Prevention Initiative.
It’s a statistic that hits home, particularly here in McKenzie County, where resources can feel miles away. But, on June 28, the community is coming together, not just to acknowledge this issue, but to drive change, one mile at a time.
