Fire destroys Watford City duplex

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, at approximately 12:55 p.m., officers from the Watford City Police Department responded to a reported structure fire at 701 2nd Ave. SE.
Upon arrival, law enforcement observed the duplex was heavily involved in fire and ammunition inside the residence began discharging due to the heat.
Firefighters from the Watford City Fire Department arrived and brought the fire under control in about one hour.
During suppression efforts, firefighters successfully rescued two dogs trapped in the basement. No residents were home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
Detectives from the Watford City Police Department and the North Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire. The structure sustained significant structural damage.
Displaced families have been assisted with temporary housing.
