Delegation Advances Energy Agenda

MCF Newsroom Reports
North Dakota’s congressional delegation spent last week advancing a slate of energy and regulatory priorities in Washington and back home, as lawmakers sharpened their focus on grid reliability, federal land policy and water regulations.
Rep. Julie Fedorchak voted for two House bills aimed at strengthening the nation’s electric grid and improving transparency across power supply chains. The State Planning for Reliability and Affordability Act would require state utility regulators to ensure power providers maintain adequate dispatchable generation, including natural gas, coal, nuclear and hydropower, over a 10-year planning window. Fedorchak said the measure pushes back against states that have leaned on aggressive renewable mandates, arguing those policies increase costs and undermine reliability.
A second bill, the Electric Supply Chain Act, directs the Department of Energy to regularly assess vulnerabilities in transformers, minerals and other components essential to the bulk power system. DOE would be required to consult with utilities, grid operators and manufacturers and deliver Congress up-to-date assessments.
