County sets state record for producing wells

McKenzie County, which has consistently led North Dakota in the production of oil and gas, set another milestone in May as it became the first oil-producing county in the state to surpass 5,000 operating wells.
That good news was shared by Lynn Helms, North Dakota Mineral Resources director, during his monthly Director’s Cut on Tuesday, July 20.
“To put that in context, in April of 2006, as they were drilling the first big Bakken well over in Parshall, statewide we had 3,525 wells,” Helms said. “So McKenzie County all by itself has 150 percent of the wells the whole state had in 2006.”
