Braddock Memorial Drive Dedication: “A Hero Remembered Never Dies”

Watford City and the greater community at large is ensuring that one thing that it is known for is that it does and will honor and remember its public servants, no matter the number of years that have passed.
A Comparison of Vantage Points
The cop - When you’re a cop in Watford City and you walk down the hallway of the station and see a framed photograph of an officer you never met but that once worked the same streets that you do, performed many of the same duties you do today, raised their right hand and recited the same oath as you did….and they gave their life upholding it, it resonates with you. It’s palpable. It’s real. And when it results in the loss of life, a sacrifice, that came from putting others in need above one’s own safety it sets an example, even leaves a legacy as to what “to serve and to protect” truly means. Far beyond a slogan but the very essence of the job, including all of its inherent risks.
The citizen - When you’re a citizen, you may see that same image or article in the paper. You might remember that person in uniform from having been stopped for a traffic offense by that same person in uniform, or seeing them as they directed traffic around a car crash you went by, or you reported a crime and they were the responding officer, or maybe even made a bad decision in life and were arrested by them.
