Pioneer Generation Phase IV Fully Operational

MCF Newsroom Reports

Pioneer Generation Station Phase IV (PGSIV), located northwest of Williston, is now fully operational, marking Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s largest single-site generation project in North Dakota since the 1980s.

The natural gas-fueled facility adds approximately 580 megawatts of dispatchable power to the grid, using a combination of fast-start reciprocating engines and combustion turbines. The station is designed to meet growing energy demands in the Upper Midwest and enhance long-term grid reliability.

“This was a significant undertaking, and our team delivered, on time, under budget, and with a strong safety record,” said Gavin McCollam, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Basin Electric. “They skillfully met every challenge and the end result aligns with our mission to provide energy to rural America.”
