Mineral Tracker Petroleum Engineer, Joel Brown, joined KTGO “What’s On Your Mind?” Radio Host, Scott Hennen for his Window on Watford segment last week to talk about the new oil and gas legislation.

Brown says the purpose of Mineral Tracker’s experts is to stay ahead of the curve and anticipate what’s going on with the oil and gas industry within North Dakota.

“Within Mineral Tracker, we built software (in 2018) designed to help mineral owners understand what it is that they own - and ultimately make sure that when they are owed royalties...they are being paid correctly,” explained Brown.

Mineral Tracker joined First International Bank and Trust in 2020, and according to Brown, the company has seen great success for its clients.

“It’s been five years now, and in that period of time we’ve released over $13 million in royalties that otherwise would have been suspended to our clients.”

Hennen noted that at one time McKenzie County was the largest oil producing county in the country, “Is it still?”
“I think we’ve fallen to probably three or four on that list at this time,” Brown said. “We got surpassed by New Mexico in 2020.”
Acknowledging that McKenzie County is not the lead oil producer in the county, Hennen describes it as the Epicenter. “I always say, that within 80 miles of Watford City is 80-plus percent of the “mojo” of the Bakken.”
