National 4-H Week was held on the first full week of this month.
This week celebrates the impact of 4-H and promotes the organization to kids that may take interest in it. 4-H week began in 1942, as an outgrowth of World War II.
It started in Ohio and was met with a favorable response by state leaders throughout the country. In the earlier years National 4-H Week was held in the later spring, although beginning in 1968, it was observed in the middle of fall. In the later 1970’s radio spots were offered to celebrities to promote 4-H Week, some participants included Roy Rogers, Tanya Tucker, Glen Campbell, Reba McEntire, and President Ronald Regan.
National 4-H Week continues to promote and “shout out” 4-H and its members, and although there may have been more promotion in the past it is still a time to recognize and appreciate 4-H clubs everywhere.
