WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND

Spend five minutes surveying the American media landscape and an obvious truth jumps out: conservative voices are vastly outnumbered.

Turn on the network news. Scan the front pages of major newspapers. Flip through most cable channels. Scroll social media feeds curated by legacy outlets. The dominant worldview is unmistakably liberal - often not just in opinion pages, but baked directly into what passes for straight news.

And yet, when a conservative dares to speak, the outrage machine roars to life.
It’s a fascinating contradiction. Those who claim to be the fiercest defenders of free expression often seem the least tolerant of it when the viewpoint isn’t their own. The First Amendment, it seems, is sacred...right up until it protects speech they disagree with.

Many conservatives, by contrast, still hold a pretty old-fashioned view: free speech means everyone gets a voice, even when we don’t like what’s being said.

I write one column a week and host a 3 hour daily radio talk show. In most newsrooms across the country, voices like mine are in the minority. That’s not a complaint, it’s just a fact. Conservatives aren’t asking for dominance. We’re asking for balance. For fairness. For the simple recognition that half the country might see things differently.
