TRAVELING JACK

By Jack Dura

Even on the road, I keep an ear to the news.
A lot of these reports aren’t newsworthy where we are but they’d make a helluva radio segment.
I present the news around North Dakota, via Traveling Jack’s Dispatch.
Sims Evangelical Lutheran Church appears to be undergoing renovations. A boom lift, ladders and at least one worker were present last week Tuesday.
The Sims church was established in 1884 and is the oldest in west river North Dakota.
No word yet on a completion date for work.
Geezer’s Bookstore and Mert’s Cafe are for sale in Marmarth along with two adjoining lots.
Asking prices include $7,500 for the south building, $8,500 for the north building, $2,500 for each lot or $4,500 for both.
Contact Fred for more details. Cash offers will be considered.
A bus group will leave Hettinger on Sunday, Sept. 3, on a tour of old barns in Adams County. Call Loren and reserve your seat today.
Golva celebrated its centennial the weekend of June 30. This leaves scantily few North Dakota towns yet to turn 100. West Fargo is (most likely) next in 2026.
Writer Alicia Underlee Nelson is on a tour promoting her book, “North Dakota Beer: A Heady History.” See her in Fargo on Thursday and Carrington and Minot the Saturday after next.
Recall efforts are active for a Courtenay city council member and Washburn’s city commission president. Nine recall efforts have organized throughout North Dakota this year, the state’s elections specialist says.
Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford joined Twitter in late June. His account handle is @BrentSanfordND. He has about 136 followers.
Ghosts of North Dakota photographer Troy Larson has posted pictures of his and partner Terry Hinnenkamp’s visit to McKenzie County.
Sites visited included the Schafer jail, Charbonneau, Fairview Lift Bridge and Cartwright Tunnel. Find them online at ghostsofnorthdakota.com
The city of Rhame asks you to pray for rain.
Construction lines 11 miles of road between Casselton and West Fargo. Speeds are restricted to 40 mph.
Scheduling is underway for McClusky Ambulance EMT classes. A start date is forthcoming, likely for September or October. A minimum of 10 students is desired for the class likely going into next spring.
Robinson held its first annual Center Fest last weekend, celebrating “the only righteous and legal geographical center of North America.” Rugby had once held a similar title.
Entertainment included amateur boxing, a pop-up art show and live accordion music, among other artists.
This concludes the news.
