The state of North Dakota will be recognizing its 133rd anniversary of statehood on Nov. 2, 2022. In honor of this, I thought it would be nice to share some interesting historical facts about our state.
First and foremost I found it extremely interesting that both North and South Dakota were entered as single states in the union on Nov. 2, 1889, but the exact order in which the proclamations were signed are unknown. Did you know that North Dakota is only known as the 39th state over South Dakota because of its alphabetical position?
In 1864, the very first newspaper in the Northern Dakota Territory “The Frontier Scout” was published at Fort Union. Issues of this newspaper can be read today on the North Dakota State Historical Society, dating back to July 14, 1864.
North Dakota is a wonderful region for cattle, in fact cattle are raised in every single county within the state. According to the N.D. Department of Agriculture there is approximately 1.8 million head of cattle throughout the state, which is double the amount of people.
WDAY Radio is the very first radio station to broadcast in the state, dating back to 1922. That radio station is still in operation today, owned and operated by our very own Flag Family Media and Forum Communications.
