Wrestling Wolves down Beulah

The Watford City wrestling Wolves had a busy schedule this past week as they took on Beulah in dual action on Thursday, and then hosted the Levi Wisness Classic on Saturday.
This week, the Wolves will host the No. 3 team in Region 4, the Hettinger  Black Devils, in a dual meet on Thursday. This match is extremely important as the winner will most likely be one of the two teams in the State Class B Dual Tournament in Fargo next month. Watford City has beaten Killdeer, and Killdeer beat Hettinger last week. If Watford City wins this dual, they would only have to beat New Salem in February to be the No. 1 seed in the State Tournament from Region 4. Their state opponent has yet to be determined.
Hettinger’s lineup has been changed quite a bit this season, so it is not set in stone. They do have the No. 1 140-pounder in the state in Sean Elkins. He has lost only twice, both to out-of-state wrestlers, and he defeated Jake Thomas earlier this season. That rematch could be worth the price of admission. Other key matches in the dual will be Chauncy Hughes and Coleton Jore at 103 pounds, Codi Tomac and Isaac Laris at 119 pounds, Trevor Abrahamson and Joe Nelson at 125 pounds, Christian Hughes and Trevor Kalberer at 130 pounds, and Jeff Abrahamson and Austin Garmann at 145 pounds.
The match will start at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym.
The Wolves will then travel to New Salem on Friday and Saturday for the 34th annual East-West Tournament. Wrestling action, which will feature 23 of the top teams from North Dakota, begins at 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
