Wolves struggle against Ranchers

Watford City’s varsity boys basketball team took one on the chin last Saturday as the Wolves fell to the Powers Lake Ranchers, 67-58, at the Williston State College Well.
With the loss, the Wolves’ season record fell to 2-5. But Watford City is hoping to get back on the winning track this week as the Wolves are  back home for a three-game series. The Wolves kick off the week hosting Killdeer on Thursday and then take on Beach on Friday. Watford City will close out this week’s schedule hosting Tioga on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Powers Lake 67, Watford City 58
In a matchup between two of the top Region 8 teams at the Williston State College Well on Saturday, Watford City was no match for the Powers Lake Ranchers.
Powers Lake led throughout the contest posting an 18-12 first-quarter lead and led by nine points, 38-29, at halftime.
The Ranchers extended their lead to 11 points, 54-43, going into the final eight minutes of play.
The Wolves had three players scoring in double digits in the loss with Tyler Bates pacing both teams in scoring with 25 points, while Michael Schulz and Reid Brown netted 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Watford City.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Cole Rolfsrud with six points, while Dustin Kleppen and Logan Fettig netted two points each.
