Watford City’s varsity boys basketball team picked up wins over Stanley and Trenton this week while falling to New Town.
The Wolves, who are 11-3 on the season, will wrap up their regular season play when they host Beulah on Thursday, and then travel to Dickinson Trinity on Saturday.
Watford City 63, Stanley 35
Watford City had three players score in double figures as the Wolves rolled over the Stanley Blue Jays in District 15 action last Tuesday.
In a game that was decided very quickly, Watford City exploded to a 20-11 first-quarter lead, and then held the Blue Jays to single-digit scoring in the final three quarters of play en route to an easy 63-35 win.
Trey Jacobson led both teams in scoring with 21 points, while Shawn Fulwider and Tyler Flatland netted 15 and 10 points, respectively, for the Wolves.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Sean Walker with five points, Nick Liebel and Curtis Lohse with four points each, while Jason Shipman and Tyler Bates netted two points each.

New Town 55, Watford City 50

A poor shooting effort by Watford City in the third quarter cost the Wolves a chance to avenge an earlier loss to New Town as the Wolves fell to the Eagles, 55-50, last Thursday.
In a hard-fought first half that saw the Wolves hold a 11-10 first-quarter lead before the Eagles would tie the game at 24-24 at halftime, Watford City lost its offensive momentum in the third quarter and the Eagles took advantage of Watford City’s shooting woes to go on a 19-8 scoring spree.
But even though the Wolves found themselves down by 11 points going into the final eight minutes of play, Watford City came battling back in the fourth quarter.
Behind two baskets by Shawn Fulwider and a Tyler Flatland layup, the Wolves put up six unanswered points to open the fourth quarter and cut New Town’s lead to five points, 43-38.
Trey Jacobson then put together the Wolves’ next run on the Eagles as he connected on back-to-back baskets to get Watford City to within one point, 45-44, with just over four minutes left in the game.
The Eagles would go back up by three points with Jacobson answering back.
Watford City gained the lead briefly when Fulwider drove to the hoop to put the Wolves on top, 48-47, with 2:16 left in the contest.
But Watford City’s lead would be short-lived as New Town scored on their next two possessions to regain a three-point lead.
Shawn Fulwider would then get the Wolves back to a one-point deficit, 51-50, with just under 1½ minutes left in the game.
But that would be as close as the Wolves would get as New Town would score the next four points to take the win.
Trey Jacobson paced the Wolves in scoring with 18 points, while Shawn Fulwider and Tyler Flatland netted 13 and 10 points, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Curtis Lohse and Tyler Bates with seven and two points, respectively.

Watford City 52, Trenton 40

Trenton had no answer for Watford City’s balanced scoring attack as the Wolves had four players hit double figures in a Region 8 match-up on Saturday afternoon.
Shawn Fulwider had a game high 13 points to lead both teams in scoring while Tyler Flatland, Nick Liebel and Trey Jacobson netted 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
Watford City led the Tigers, 21-11, at the end of the first quarter of play with Trenton battling back in the second quarter to tie the game at 29-29. But Watford City turned up its defense in the second half to hold Trenton to single-digit scoring in the final two stanzas to take the win.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Curtis Lohse with three points, Sterling Ross with two points and Tyler Bates with one point.
