Watford to host Legion Section 6 Baseball Tourney

The Watford City American Legion baseball team wrapped up its 2013 regular season play this past week as the Walleye played eight games in four days.
This past week, the Walleye played three games on July 13 with Watford City defeating Glendive,19-16, before dropping a pair to Glasgow. On July 14, the Walleye topped Glendive, 7-4, before picking up a pair of wins over Garrison on July 15. The Walleye closed out their regular season action splitting a pair of games against Sidney on July 17.
This week, Watford City will be hosting the American Legion Section 6 Tournament, which will run from July 24 to 27.

Watford City 19, Glendive 16
After jumping out to a 2-0 first inning lead, Watford City had to battle back to take a 19-16 win over Glendive. Glendive would hold a 10-5 lead after four innings of play, but Watford City would score 14 runs in the final three innings to take the win.
Andrew Sampsel picked up the win on the mound for the Walleye as he struck out nine batters while giving up 11 hits and four walks in six innings of work.
At the plate Keegan Thompson was three of five with a home run and five RBIs; and Andrew Sampsel was four for four with a double and six RBIs.

Glasgow out-hit the Walleye, 13-9, in the first game on July 14, as Watford City lost, 6-9.
Watford City led 4-3 after three innings of play, but Glasgow’s bats came alive in the final innings as they scored six runs in the fifth and six innings to take the win.
Dakota Neether took the loss on the mound for the Walleye as he struck out 10 batters, but gave up 13 hits and walks.
At the plate, Brandon Allex was two for three with a single, while Dakota Neether was four for four with a single and three RBIs.
In the second game, Glasgow again came from a 1-0 deficit to knock off the Walleye, 9-4.
Dustin Kleppen, who came in for relief of Brandon Allex, picked up the loss for Watford City.
At the plate, Brice Brenno was three for four with a single and one RBI, while Nate Egeberg was three for four with two doubles and a home run and three RBIs.

Watford City had Glendive’s number again as the Walleye took advantage of a 10-3 hitting margin to pick up a 7-4 win.
Nate Egeberg picked up the win, while Mitchell Liebel recorded the save in the game.
At the plate Andrew Sampsel was two for two with a double and a single and one RBI, while Nate Egeberg was two for four with a pair of singles.

Watford City’s bats were popping as the Walleye had 26 hits in two games to sweep Garrison, 9-2, and 11-5 on July 15.
In the first game, Brice Brenno and Nate Egeberg both belted the ball out of the park to give the Walleye their scoring punch.
At the plate, Brenno’s homer scored two runs, while Egeberg’s was three for four with a single, a double, a home run and two RBIs.
Mitchell Liebel picked up the win for the Walleye as he struck out five batters while giving up four hits and two runs.
In the second game, Watford City jumped out to a 10-4 lead after four innings of play, and never looked back as they rolled over Garrison, 11-5.
At the plate, Nate Egeberg was two for four with both hits being home runs that put five Walleye across the plate, while Brandon Taylor was two for three with a pair of doubles and one RBI.
Brandon Allex was the winning pitcher for the Walleye as the struck out four batters, while giving up seven hits and nine walks.

Watford City split with Sidney on July 17, as the Walleye took the first game, 15-8, and then came up on the short side of the scoreboard in the second game, 18-4.
Watford City dominated the first game jumping out to a 6-3 lead at the end of the third inning, and then added on nine more runs in the final two innings.
Andrew Sampsel picked up the win for the Walleye as he struck out 10 batters, while giving up six hits, eight runs and seven walks.
At the plate, Brice Brenno and Brandon Allex both homered for Watford City.
In the second game, Sidney turned the tables on the Walleye as they scored 10 runs in the first inning and then scored five more runs in the second inning to take a 10-0 lead.
Sidney went on to take the game, 18-4, in five innings.
Dustin Kleppen picked up the loss for the Walleye.
At the plate, Mitchell Liebel provided the Walleye’s scoring power as he hit a three-run home run.
