Walleye head to State Legion baseball tourney

With a 10-0 win over Makoti in the title game of the Section 6 American Legion Baseball Tournament, Watford City punched their ticket to the State American Legion Baseball Tournament. The State Tournament begins on Wednesday, July 27, in Bottineau with Watford City taking on Velva in opening round action.
In the Sectional Tournament, Watford City got off to a good start pounding Stanley, 16-4, in five innings to advance to the semifinals. But the Walleye stumbled against the Mavericks in that game losing 8-3.
Watford City then knocked off Garrison, 12-0, in five innings to set the stage for a two-game matchup against Makoti with the Walleye being forced to win both games in order to advance to the State Tournament.
And the Walleye rose to the challenge blasting Makoti, 10-0, in the first of two championship games, and then securing their spot at the State Tournament downing the Mavericks in the second game, 11-0.
Section 6 Tournament
Watford City 16, Stanley 4

Watford City scored 16 runs on 12 hits as the Walleye cruised to a 16-4 win over Stanley in opening first round action of the Section 6 American Legion Baseball Tournament.
After jumping out to a 7-3 lead after two innings of play, Watford City scored five runs in the third inning on back-to-back home runs by Brice Brenno and Chaz Mosby to put the game out of reach of the Blue Jays.
Douglas Rolfson was solid on the mound as he struck out 11 batters while giving up four hits and three walks to earn the win on the mound for the Walleye.
At the plate, Mosby was two for four with one home run and three RBIs, Nick Liebel was three for three with a double and three runs scored, Trey Jacobson was three for three with a double and three RBIs, Douglas Rolfson was two for two with a double and four RBIs, Chris Larsen was one for one with one RBI and Brice Brenno was one for three with a home run and two RBIs.

After defeating Makoti all season long, Watford City struggled at the plate against Maverick pitching in second-round action of the Section 6 Tournament.
While the Walleye would out-score the Mavericks, 2-1, in the first inning, Watford City’s bats went silent for the next five innings as Watford City fell to Makoti, 8-3.
Trey Jacobson took the loss on the mound for the Walleye giving up eight runs while striking out nine batters.
At the plate, Jacobson was three for three with two doubles and two runs scored, while Doug Nordby was one for three with one RBI.

Watford City 12, Garrison 0
Garrison took the brunt of Watford City’s loss to Makoti as the Walleye scored 12 runs on 17 hits to defeat the Troopers, 12-0, in five innings in loser-out action of the Section 6 tournament.
Watford City jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead, and then held Garrison scoreless in the next four innings of play while adding eight more runs in their scoring column.
Chaz Mosby picked up the win on the mound for the Walleye striking out three batters while giving up just two hits.
At the plate, Mosby was two for three with three runs scored, Nick Liebel was four for four with two doubles and three RBIs, Trey Jacobson was three for four with a home run and four RBIs, Doug Nordby was three for three with a double and a RBI, Chris Larsen was two for two with a RBI, and Doug Rolfson was three for three with two RBIs.

Watford City 10, Makoti 0

Watford City put the big hurt on Makoti in the first of two games that would determine who would represent Section 6 at the State American Legion Baseball Tournament as the Walleye shut out the Mavericks, 10-0.
The Walleye jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead, and then cruised to the win scoring four runs in the third inning and then tacking on two more runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Trey Jacobson had a huge game for Watford City as he went four for four at the plate hitting two home runs, a double, a triple and four runs scored.
Douglas Rolfson earned the win on the mound for Watford City as he struck out nine batters, while giving up four hits and one walk.
Other offensive highlights at the plate were Chaz Mosby who was one for four with a triple and one RBI, Nick Liebel was one for two with three runs scored, Douglas Rolfson was one for three with one RBI, Doug Nordby was two for four with a double, and Brice Brenno was two for three with a double.

With a 10-0 win over Makoti in the deciding game of the Section 6 Tournament, Watford City earned a repeat trip to the State American Legion Tournament.
The Walleye completely dominated Makoti in the game as solid pitching and defense kept the Mavericks off the scoreboard.
Watford City led Makoti, 3-0, after two innings of play and then put up five more runs in the third inning.
Douglas Rolfson, who earned the win on the mound for the Walleye, also pounded out a three-run homer in the fifth inning to end the game.
At the plate, Rolfson was one for three with a home run and four RBIs, Chaz Mosby was two for three, Nick Liebel was two for three, Trey Jacobson was one for two with a RBI, Doug Nordby was one for two with a double, Joey Dwyer was one for two, Nate Egeberg was one for three with a double and a RBI, and Chris Larsen was one for one with two RBIs.
