Spikers pick up two big wins

Watford City’s varsity volleyball team picked up two big wins this past week as the Wolves defeated Trinity Christian, 3-1, on the road and then bested Trenton in three quick games at home.
The next action for the Wolves will be on Oct. 25 when they travel to  Beulah.

Whenever Watford City and Trinity Christian square off against each other on the volleyball court, fans can expect an exciting match. And last Monday the rivalry continued as the Wolves won a very hard-fought match against the Crusaders.
The Wolves won the first two games, 25-19, and 25-18, to break the match open. But Trinity Christian battled back to take the third game, 27-25. But the Wolves responded to the challenge, taking the fourth, and deciding game, 25-15.
“Beating Trinity Christian on their home court was a big win for us,” stated Nancy Deutsch, Wolves’ head coach. “We had lost to them just a week ago at the Dickinson Tournament. But we played much better against them this time.”
For the match, the Wolves only had  four service aces, but Watford City was dominating at the net with 33 kills.
Tori Hopkins led Watford City with two service aces, while Ricki Lindley had 11 kills. Defensively, Amanda Mogen and Lindley had two blocks each, while Mogen had 24 digs.

Watford City made short work of  Trenton last Thursday evening as the Wolves swept the Tigers in three games, 25-23, 25-15 and 26-24.
With the win, the Wolves improved their dual record to 5-4 and season record to 10-11.
In the match, the Wolves had five service aces and 46 kills.
Tessa Dwyer led the Wolves with two service aces, while Ricki Lindley had 15 kills. Defensively, Amanda Mogen had 19 digs.
