Since it rained all night in Bottineau, the tournament was forced to finish in Minot. The college football field was set up to play under the lights, and with only one field to play on, the games went late into the night.
“McKenna Mayne and McKayla Haugeberg led the team with hits, both batting three for five,” stated Langerud.
At the top of the ninth, Watford City’s Tarynn Jacobson had a game- altering double, knocking in two runs. Watford held Grafton in the bottom of the ninth to move on to the championship game.

Watford City 14, KBMLS 4
The championship game with Watford City taking on Kenmare-BMLS got underway after midnight. In the first three innings, the Wolves went through the entire batting order, and then held Kenmare in the fifth to 10- run-rule them, 14-4.
“In our first year of having a softball team, we not only made it to State, we made it as Region champs,” stated Langerud. “The girls really wanted to win this tournament and knew it was possible. They stayed true to that, and I am very proud of this team.”
Watford City Wolves Tori Hopkins, Taylor Dwyer, and McKayla Haugeberg were named to the All Region Team.
The Wolves softball team competes in the State Tournament in West Fargo May 30 through June 1.
