Smith wins Watford cross country meet

Asha Smith pretty much ran away from the competition as she won first place at the Watford City cross country meet at the Fox Hills Golf Course & Country Club last Tuesday. The Watford City freshman burned the course in a time of 16:10, nearly a full minute faster than the next finisher.
Behind Smith’s performance, the Watford City girls varsity team took second place, while the varsity boys team took fourth place.
Addison Sundeen finished the course in eighth place with a time of  18.38 to finish in the top 10.
Also placing for the Watford City girls team was Lea Arndt, 11th, 19:12; Tara Loomer, 15th, 19:36; Katie Skarda, 19th, 20:11; Kara Wold, 20th, 20:21; and Hayley Moe, 21st, 20:49.
Guy Ross was the top finisher for the Watford City varsity boys team with a sixth place finish with a time of 19:37. Dustin Kleppen just missed making the top 10 with an 11th place finish in a time of 20:04.
Other Watford City place finishers in the varsity boys division were Logan Gumke, 19th,  20:39; Michael Brown, 27th, 22:33; Joesph Rasmussen, 30th, 23:31; Trevor Alveshere, 40th, 27:30; and Josh Segneri, 43rd,  28:15.
Watford City also took second place in the junior high boys division, with Cole McGorman pacing the team with a fourth place finish with a time of 13:04. Also placing was Hunter DeFoe, 6th, 13:34; Dakota Garmann, 10th, 14:15; and Cale Bandelin, 11th, 15:33.
