After falling to the Hazen Bison, 66-54, in varsity boys basketball action on Tuesday, Dec. 20, Randy Cranston is hoping that the long Christmas break will give his team a time to regroup. The Wolves, who are 2-4 on the season, are looking to recover from three straight losses when they travel to Killdeer on Jan. 5.

Shawn Fulwider poured in a game high 25 points and pulled in 11 rebounds for a double-double last Tuesday evening. But in spite of Fulwider’s great game, the Watford City Wolves came up on the short side of the scoring column against the Hazen Bison.
After trailing the Bison, 19-12, at the end of the first quarter of play, Watford City rallied in the second stanza to only trail Hazen by two points, 31-29, at halftime.
But Hazen came out of the locker room at halftime on fire as the Bison outgunned the Wolves, 20-9, to take the wind out of Watford City’s sails. Watford City would outscore the Bison, 16-15, in the final eight minutes of play as Hazen took the win.
“We played with them for all but three minutes in the third quarter,” stated Randy Cranston, Wolves head coach. “We had too many costly turnovers and Hazen’s hot shooting proved to be the difference in those three minutes and in the game.”
Tyler Bates joined Fulwider in double digit scoring for Watford City as he chipped in 12 points in the losing effort.
Also scoring for the Wolves was Dustin Kleppen with five points, Lucas Nicholson and Mitchell Liebel with four points each, Reid Brown with three points and Cole Rolfsrud with one point.
