An eighth place finish at the State Class B Fast Pitch Softball Tournament wasn’t the finish the Watford City girls softball team had been hoping for. But in spite of losing all three games at this year’s tournament, the Wolves, who made it to State in their very first year of competition, were thrilled at the chance of making it to the tournament.
The Wolves fell to Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg, 6-5, in their first game and then lost to Thompson, 15-4, in their second game. In the battle for seventh place, the Wolves fell to Kenmare-Bowbells-Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood, 11-7.
McKayla Haugeberg and Tori Hopkins were named to the All State Team.

Watford City 5, MPCG 6
With a 4-2 lead after four innings of play, it looked like Watford City would pick up a win in opening round action of the State Class B Girls Softball Tournament last Thursday. But Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg would rally with four runs in the fifth inning to edge the Wolves, 6-5.
At the plate, Taylor Dwyer was one for four with a double and two RBIs, while McKayla Haugeberg was one for two with one RBI.

Watford City 4, Thompson 15
Thompson got their bats going early as the Tommies jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning of play in Friday’s action at the State Class B Softball Tournament. But it was the second inning when Thompson would put the game on ice as they scored 12 runs en route to a 15-4 win over the Wolves.
At the plate, McKayla Haugeberg had a hit and scored two runs, while  Karissa Monsen was one for two with two RBIs.

Watford City 7, KBMLS 11
In the battle for seventh place at the State Class B Fast Pitch Softball Tournament on Saturday, the Wolves led Kenmare-Bowbells-Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 4-3 after two innings of play. But a seven-run third inning by KBMLS proved to be too much for the Wolves to overcome as Watford City took a 11-7 loss.
At the plate, McKayla Haugeberg was three for four with a run scored and one RBI.
Tori Hopkins took the loss on the mound for the Wolves.
