Sheila Kennedy

Memorial service for Sheila Kennedy, 70, of Fargo, N.D., is at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Watford City, N.D., with Pastor Rob Favorite officiating. Interment of cremains will be at a later date. Sheila passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012 at Essentia Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.
Sheila Kennedy was born March 20, 1942, in San Diego, Calif., to Neil and Marjorie Kennedy. She grew up and received her primary education in Watford City, N.D. She was married in 1960 to Anthony Rex Fox. They had two sons, Steven Anthony and Douglas Neil. They later divorced.
Sheila attended Minot Business College in 1960 and 1961. She worked at the First International Bank. She then moved to Glendive, Mont., and worked for the Credit Bureau. Sheila moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in 1963 and worked for McCormack Steamship Lines. In 1965, she and her husband moved to Dallas, Texas, where Sheila worked as secretary for the Mercantile Security Life Insurance Company and then for the City of Dallas.
Sheila and her sons moved back to North Dakota where she later worked as a legal secretary in Devils Lake. In 1974, after living in Minneapolis for a short time, she moved to Dickinson, N.D. and attended Dickinson State College for two years. Sheila then moved to Jamestown in 1976 and worked as a Mental Health Care Specialist. She left for a brief time, then returned to work for the state hospital in 1982, and attended college majoring in psychology and chemical addiction. Sheila met her significant other, Selmer Sartwell, in 1984 while she was working at the state hospital and they were together the rest of her life. Sheila retired from the state hospital in 2001 after undergoing surgery for throat cancer. Sheila made a lot of friends at the state hospital and enjoyed working with all her coworkers and visiting with all the  people she met there over the years.
Sheila was an avid reader and she read many books over her lifetime. When Sheila wasn’t reading, she was visiting her friends in Jamestown. Sheila especially enjoyed going back to Watford City every year to visit the old farm and friends and family in the area. Sheila also loved to visit her sons and her grandkids whenever she got the chance.
Sheila was preceded in death by her father, Neil Kennedy; her mother, Marjorie Bergee; and brothers Michael Kennedy and Tom Bergee. She is survived by her sister, Debra Kennedy; brother, Tim Bergee; sons, Steven (Sandy) Kelly, of New Town, N.D., and Douglas Kelly, of Bay City, Mich.; five grandchildren, Matt, Amanda, Melissa, Derek and Kendra;  two great-grandsons and her significant other of 24 years, Selmer Sartwell.
