Ruth McConnon

Ruth “Ruthie” McConnon, 83, of Gig Harbor, passed away, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family on Nov. 22, 2013, in Gig Harbor.
She was born on July 17, 1930, in Arnegard, N.D., and was the middle child of 11. She was raised in Alexander, N.D., and then attended high school in Watford City, N.D. While attending school in Watford she met, and later married, her high school sweetheart Dave McConnon. She worked in banking in Watford and in Denver, Colo., before flying to Seattle to marry her sweetheart in Seattle, Wash., on Jan, 28, 1952, before his deployment to Korea. Upon his return home in 1953, Ruth and her family moved to Anaconda, Mont.,  and she worked various jobs to help support her family while Dave attended college in Bozeman, Mont.
She helped to support her family with various jobs which included being an accomplished seamstress/ tailor. Ruth was a devoted homemaker and maintained the family home while she and her family traveled throughout the United States while Dave worked for the Federal Highway Department. Proudly owning and operating Posie Path Floral Shop  from 1983 to 1991 is what brought her to Gig Harbor. She enjoyed many hobbies which included arts and crafts, especially painting, floral design, sales, Scandinavian cooking especially lefse. She was had a very active role in her children’s activities growing up and in her many Lutheran Church groups. She is preceded in death by many family members.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dave; four children, Barb, Bill, Mike, and David; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and four brothers and sisters.
The funeral service was held Nov. 30, at Peninsula Lutheran Church, 6509 38th Ave NW, Gig Harbor. Interment was held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., on Dec. 3.
