Randy Slais

Randy Slais, 61, of Watford City, N.D., formerly of Williston, N.D., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital in Watford City after fighting a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was so appreciative of the prayers, love and support he received from family and friends.
Randy was born June 18, 1955, in Williston, N.D., the son of Clarence and Florence (Treider) Slais. He was raised and educated in Williston and graduated from Williston High School in 1973. Randy graduated from UND, Grand Forks, with a business degree in 1977.
In Randy’s earlier years he grew up working in the family grocery store, University Grocery. He learned early on the importance of a good work ethic from his parents. Randy began working for National Supply in 1978 in Williston, N.D.; his career sent him to Killdeer, N.D., and then Watford City, N.D., until its closure in 1999. Randy began working at First International Bank in Watford City March 20, 1999, and became the Data Center Officer. He held that position until his death.
A man with a dedication to community, Randy was a member of the Fox Hills Golf Club, Watford City Lions, Elks in Williston, and First Lutheran Church in Watford City.  He had a strong faith and was active on many boards for the church over the years.
Randy married Donna Hoeckle, the love of his life, in Watford City on Oct. 22, 1994. They were blessed with a precious daughter, Sydney Marie on April 5, 1996, whom was the pride and joy of their lives. The family was completed on Aug. 4, 2006, when Misty Mae, a Maltese Poodle, joined them.
Randy loved the summer as he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed his walks and precious time spent with family and friends. His passion was keeping fit by exercising at the Wellness Center and his daily lettuce salad and apple for lunch.
Randy is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Sydney; brother, David (Debbie) Slais of Williston; sister, Shirley (Loyal) Larson of Grenora; godchildren, Kirsten Gaudreau and Logan Stoner; one aunt, Ruth Treider; several cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Florence Slais; and a brother, Charles Slais.
His funeral service was at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City. Pastor Mark Honstein will officiate. A family service was held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City.
His funeral arrangements are with Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home.
