Phyllis Francis Elaine Miller Hoffmann passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City, N.D. Phyllis was born Oct. 15, 1922, to Edward and Frieda (Jehs) Miller in Wheaton, Minn. She was the youngest of three girls and was known as "Babe" by her mother and sisters.
Phyllis attended school in Wyndmere, N.D., and graduated from Wahpeton High School. She was very proud to have graduated from high school and encouraged her children to be well-educated.
While in Wahpeton, she met and married Victor Hoffmann. They lived in Jacksonville, Fla., from 1943-1945 while Victor was in the Navy. They returned home to the family farm after Victor was discharged. Phyllis loved living on the farm and worked side by side with Victor driving tractor, milking cows and feeding calves. After Victor passed away in 1995, Phyllis continued to reside on the farm until 2002 when she moved to the Senior Citizens home in Watford City. She resided there until 2006 and was most recently a resident of the Good Shepherd Home.
Phyllis will be best remembered for her delicious cookies. The first place family members headed to when they entered the house, was to the cookie jar, which was always full. Her children and grandchildren were her world. She loved to play Scrabble and card games with them. Phyllis loved to crochet and made many afghans for family and friends. She had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for her great one-liners.
Phyllis worked at the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City for over 30 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, President of the Women of Epiphany, was on the board of the FHA, and was a Eucharistic minister and usher in the church.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, Grace Lehman, Wahpeton, N.D.; her children, Gene (Margo) Hoffmann of Nicollet, Minn., Gary (Cindy) Hoffmann of New Salem, N.D., Vicki (Sid) Hauge of Williston, N.D., David (Denae) Hoffmann of Watford City, N.D., and Mark (Linda) Hoffmann of Sutton, Vt.; grandchildren, Mary Melby, Paul Hoffmann, LeMan Hoffmann, Kelly Grondahl, Heidi Grondahl, Cia Gronneberg, Jana Hoffmann and Larry Hoffmann; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
