Mel Gullickson

Melvin Gullickson passed away peacefully on his 91st birthday with his loving family at his side.
Mel was born in Rawson, N.D., to Edward and Bertha Gullickson. He grew up in a farming community and frequently traveled to school on horseback. He was a World War II veteran who joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served on the USS ATR 58, a rescue ship in the South Pacific.
Mel met and married Maxine McMaster in Watford City, N.D., in 1940. They were married May 15, 1943, in Miami while he was serving his country. Mel worked for 39 years for (NCR) National Cash Register Co., in Washington, Ohio, Montana, Utah and ended his career in Nevada.
Mel worked at golf, but his true joy was riding his snowmobile in the Sierras.
He was a member of Washoe County Sheriff’s Dept. Snowmobile Search/Rescue. He continued to ride his snowmobile until he was 88.
He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Maxine; son, Larry Gullickson (Colleen) of Idaho; daughter, Carol Arp (Drew) of Washington and special grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Arp.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gilbert, Alex and Morris.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Sierra Bible Church, 3195 Everett Dr., Reno, NV 89503. A Celebration of Life and interment will be held in Watford City, N.D., in the spring.
