Kelly Stevenson

Kelly Ryan Stevenson, 20, of New Town, N.D., died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.
A service for family and friends was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug, 1, 2013, at the Fulkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Watford City. Burial was in the Fox Family Cemetery, rural Mandaree, N.D.
Kelly was born Sept. 28, 1992, in Watford City, N.D., to Debra Fox and Kenny Stevenson. He was a member of the Awaxia (Dripping Dirt Clan). He was raised in the New Town and Shell Creek Area. He attended the New Town Public School and received his GED 2010.
Kelly was very active in sports participating in football, baseball and basketball.  He was a member of the 2008 American Legion Post 230 State Baseball team from Makoti,
N.D. Kelly was very proud of his native heritage, participating in pow wows as a Fancy Dancer and was a member of the Eagle Feather Dance Club.
Kelly was a member of the North Dakota National Guard and a veteran of the Global War in Terrorism. Kelly joined the North Dakota Army National Guard, April 7, 2010. He was assigned to the 818th Engineer Company (Sapper) located in Williston, N.D. During his time with the 818th En Co., Kelly became proficient in his assigned job as a Combat Engineer (12B). On April 16, 2012, Kelly deployed to Afghanistan as a member of the 818th En Co. While deployed he served as a member of a route clearance team, whose primary responsibility was to ensure that all supply routes were safe for travel by all U.S. and Coalition forces.
 As a member of the North Dakota National Guard, Kelly earned the rank of S.P.C. He was also decorated with many medals and ribbons to include the Army Achievement Medal with two Devices, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Medal, NATO Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Devices, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, North Dakota Emergency Service Ribbon, and North Dakota Basic Training Ribbon.
Kelly is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hugh and Betty Stevenson; uncle, Jerry Stevenson; his maternal grandparents, Gloria Fox and Micky Packineau. He is survived by his father, Kenny Stevenson; mother, Debra Fox; sister, Gloria Stevenson (New Town); brothers, Chuck (New Town) and Garry (Beaumont, Texas); and his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and family friends.
Kelly’s adopted mother is Rachel Wilkerson.
