Inez Thompson
Inez Thompson, 96, of Keene, N.D., more recently of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Watford City, N.D., died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the home. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 28, 2010, at Keene First Lutheran Church in Keene. Pastoral Assistant Rob Favorite officiated and interment followed at Good Hope Cemetery near Keene. Inez Thompson was born on Oct.12, 1913, in rural Keene, the daughter of Torkel and Julia (Gunderson) Wollan. She attended rural schools at Keene Consolidated School across the road from her parents’ farm. Inez finished high school in Valley City, N.D. She later attended Dickinson State University in Dickinson, N.D., where she received her teaching certificate. Inez taught rural school in the Keene and Charlson areas.
On Dec. 30, 1936, Inez was united in marriage to Glenn Thompson at Sidney, Mont. They farmed and ranched in the Charlson area. Inez continued to teach and also was the Postmistress at Charlson for several years. Glenn passed away in 1963, and Inez continued to live at the farm until entering the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City in 2002, where she has been a resident since.
Inez was very active in the Keene First Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, quilting, walking and cross-country skiing, which she did up into her 80s. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her two sons, Lowell (Cynthia) Thompson of Charlson, N.D., and Mark (Jean) Thompson of Bismarck, N.D.; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine (Don) Evans of Parker, Colo.; three brothers, Arne (Mildred) Wollan and Lynn (Mildred) Wollan, both of Watford City, and Telford (Lenore) Wollan of Chicago, Ill.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, George and Arnold; one sister, Thelma Graue; and great-great-granddaughter, Baysha O’Berry.
