Duane Rindy

Duane Vernon Rindy, 90, passed away Jan. 23, 2014. He and his twin brother were born Oct. 12, 1923, in Arnegard, N.D., to John and Jean Rindy.
He graduated from Arnegard High School before being drafted. During WWII he served from 1943-1946 as an army infantryman, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in the same platoon as his twin brother, DuPont, during the liberation of New Guinea and the Philippines.
He married Mildred Okland on Feb. 15,1947, in Plentywood, Mont., and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2007, shortly before Millie’s death. They had three children, Cynthia, Nicholette, and Ronald. After farming in North Dakota for a year, Duane apprenticed in heating and plumbing, then graduated from sheet metal trade school in Wahpeton, N.D. He worked in Casper, Wyo., then moved to Baker, Mont., where he worked for Morrow Plumbing and Heating. He later became a master plumber, owning and operating his own sheet metal, plumbing and heating shop for 25 years.
In 1959 he was elected to the Montana legislature as a representative, serving one term. He owned the Dahlman Motel, a laundromat, a trailer park and was a part-owner of the livestock auction. He also helped start up the radio station. While in Baker, he was active in the community, the American Legion, and the Baker Lutheran Church. In 1979, he and Millie moved to Olympia, Wash., where he was a sheet metal worker for 10 years before he retired. In Olympia,  he was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Millie; daughter, Nicky Hoem; three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Klimas; his son, Ron (June), nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. No services were scheduled per his request.
