Alice Sorenson

Alice Jean (Paulsen) Sorenson, 90, Bismarck N.D., passed away on the evening of May 7, 2017, at the Baptist Heath Care Center in Bismarck, N.D.
Of Alices siblings, Joyce Schoenfelder survives her. The daughter of Andrew and Anna Paulsen, Alice’s life began in Luverne, N.D. She is a graduate of Luverne High School in 1945. Alice enjoyed participating in basketball along with her sister Joyce. They had games with neighboring towns. Alice was confirmed at the Luverne Lutheran Church which was her place to learn about God. Alice is a member of Banks Lutheran Church.
While growing up Alice delivered milk and cream, along with her sister Joyce. When Alice was older she worked at her cousin’s store called, The People’s Store, which stayed open each day until its last customer was ready to leave.
After high school graduation Alice moved near Watford City to the Kennedy ranch to help her sister Vi Kennedy. Alice met Homer at a dance in Watford City and they were married May 31, 1947. They made their way in life on a ranch in northern McKenzie County on the Big Missouri River.
Homer and Alice turned the ranch over to their oldest son Craig and his family and moved to Watford City where they owned AJ’s Department Store. They also took up golfing for joy and a few tournaments too. After three years they moved to Minot where they golfed, Alice bowled, knitted hundreds of dish clothes and played many games of pinochle.
Alice belongs to the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.
After Homer passed in Oct. 2003, Alice stayed in Minot for seven years until moving to Edgewood Vista in Bismarck where she met many wonderful friends. Alice moved to the Baptist Healthcare Center in mid-March for more assistance.
Alice is survived by her three children, Craig (Barb), Peggy (Jim) Helphrey, and Wayne (Cindy); her grandchildren, Lisa (Troy) Boehm, Chad (Shannon), Ryan (Jamie), Kris (Jim) Thompson, Luke (Amy) Helphrey, Jeffrey, Brent, Phil, Adam (Jalyssa), and Heather (Eric) Kwan; her great-grandchildren, Cody and Cyan, Brita, Mason (Amanda) Helphrey, Megan Thompson, Maddex and Knox Helphrey, Mary Rolfson, Alex and Asia Dutke, and Restan Sorenson.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Sorenson; her parents, Andrew and Anna (Jorgensen) Paulsen; and eight siblings, Thomas, Art, Ann McKean, Mary Grantier, Ernest, Esther Bunge, Viola Kennedy, and Andy.
A Memorial service was held at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, Friday May 12, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Susan Anderson officiated.
Burial was held at the N.D. Veterans Cemetery, Friday, May 12, 2017, at noon.
