Alice (DeRudder) Skorpil, 99, a longtime resident of Cartwright, N.D., passed away Friday morning, November 21, 2014, at the Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston, N.D., just three and one half months before her 100th birthday.
Alice Skorpil was born on March 6, 1915, in Cartwright, N.D. She was an only child and graduated from high school in Alexander. After graduation, she became a hair stylist.
On September 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to Raymond Skorpil at St. Joseph’s Church in Cartwright , N.D. The couple had two children, Dennis and Janet. They settled on the family farm in McKenzie County, where they were cattle ranchers, and farmed until poor health forced Raymond to retire in 1974. Now their grandson, Kelly Skorpil, owns the ranch. This is the fourth generation to ranch.
Alice and Raymond spent the following seventeen winter seasons at their Mesa, Ariz., winter home, and their summers back at the farm, until 1989 when they made Williston their home.
Alice was a very active volunteer until recent years. She also enjoyed playing cards, games and gardening. She loved her family dearly, and truly relished visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
