Reunions, dances just part of Homefest fun

It doesn’t matter if you graduated 10 years ago or 60, it’s always fun to reconnect with classmates and that’s exactly what Homefest is all about.
Watford City’s Homefest is scheduled as it has been for the past 20 years during the last weekend of June, with a weekend filled with great opportunities for families and classmates to rekindle friendships and catch up after years apart.
Homefest kicks off with the ‘Small Town Soldiers’ film debut produced by Cody Shimek. The movie will be shown at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Watford City High School Media Center.
The one hour movie ends just in time for the Trish Gravos Memorial Golf Scramble at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 26 followed by a steak fry at the Watford City Golf Course.
“You don’t have to be a good golfer to have fun at the golf scramble,” says Rene Johnson, Homefest coordinator. And if you’re not a golfer, you can still come out and enjoy the steak fry.”
The golf scramble and steak fry are open to the public with the money raised being used to fund the Homefest Street Dances.
Friday and Saturday are packed with high school reunion socials, picnics and school tours followed by a street dance each evening at 9 p.m.
Saturday morning will kick off with the Homefest Road Race with registration at 8 a.m at the Watford City Elementary School.
“We are excited about this year’s street dances, because they will be the only dances of the weekend,” says Johnson. “We are also very thankful to the McKenzie County Fair for not having a dance this year, because now everyone can get together in one spot instead of going back and forth to both dances.”
Big City Music out of Minot will be featured for both Friday and Saturday night’s street dances which are sure to be a great time for socializing and kicking up your heels.
“This year we’ve added mule-drawn wagon rides,” says Johnson. “It should be a fun time for both kids and adults.”
Wagon rides will begin and end at the First International Bank & Trust Parking lot, but if a group wants to schedule a pick up and drop off, that can also be arranged by calling Johnson at 444-5566.
Whether it’s a friend from high school that you haven’t seen in years or a neighbor that you have been too busy to visit with lately, Homefest is the perfect place to run into someone you haven’t seen in a while.
