During a recent open house hosted by the McKenzie County Planning and Zoning Department, a series of proposed changes were displayed for public review. These suggested changes are part of an ongoing project to review and modernize the existing zoning ordinances to align with McKenzie County values today and to address potential avenues of growth in the future.
Zoning and Land Development Ordinance Update Process
According to the information published, it was decided to update the Zoning and Land Development ordinance because the current system is difficult to use, does not account for emerging issues, is “not straightforward” and contains “many loopholes.”
The changes to this begin with a new name: Land Development Ordinance. The changes within this ordinance focus on agricultural districts, wind power, solar power, buffering and landscaping in industrial districts, changes to the planning and zoning application process, changes based on state and federal law cases, clarifying subdivision and platting requirements, and improving the formatting of the materials.
