On  Tuesday, April 16, the Bakken Area Skills Center (BASC) hosted a ceremonial grand-opening to celebrate the cumulation of a project that was first conceptualized over a decade ago, and was completed on Dec. 20, 2023.
Construction on the center began on July 27, 2022. The building has nearly 41,000 square feet of enclosed space, with four major shops dedicated to trade learning, two healthcare classrooms, as well as other specialized and general classrooms that can be used for a variety of courses.
“The Bakken Area Skills Center is part of a regional CTE center, which is also known as the Bakken Area Skills Center, Regional CTE Center. There are 10 school districts that are part of that center, which has established a governing board that has taken over actions. As far as getting this programming out to the remote sites, which is an important part of what the vision of this building is supposed to be,” said McKenzie County Public School District No. 1 (MCPSD1) Superintendent Steve Holen.
