AS I SEE IT

While most of the candidates for the June 14 Election have already filed their election paperwork that doesn’t mean there still isn’t time for people who have been thinking about serving to get their petitions signed and turned in to the appropriate filing office.
If people are still thinking that they are interested in running for a countywide office, such as the Board of County Commissioners, Auditor/Treasurer, Recorder or State’s Attorney, or on a city council, park board or school board, the deadline to file their paperwork is 4 p.m. on Monday, April 11.
So why should people want to run for seats on our local school boards, city councils and park boards? It sure isn’t for the money or the prestige. The work that these citizens do while serving as elected representatives is immeasurable and mostly goes without so much as a thank you from the people that they serve.
