AS I SEE IT

By Neal A. Shipman

If people were wondering why I was conspicuously absent around town last week, the answer is pretty simple - I was called to emergency grandparent duty when our son, Justin, and his wife, Liz, in Arizona suddenly lost their daycare provider for their nearly two-year-old son, Remi.
What is a grandparent to do when they receive a call from one of their children to help bail them out of a horrible situation? You drop everything and rearrange your schedule and do what you have to do.
And so last Monday after the paper was put together and off to our printing plant in Minot, I hopped on a plane and flew to Phoenix to assume three days of babysitting duties. To say that I was a little bit concerned about doing solo babysitting would be an understatement. While Lisa and I had performed babysitting duties when we had been to Arizona before, this was my first time of taking care of Remi all by myself and I was worried about who I could call when things didn’t go as planned.
