AS I SEE IT

Among the many battles being waged in the U.S. Congress, probably none should be more important to the American taxpayer than is this country’s debt. And once again, Republicans and Democrats are in disagreement on raising the debt limit.
For nearly two decades, lawmakers in Washington have battled each other over the federal government’s ability to borrow money to pay its bills. While their differences are primarily political, they usually come to an agreement before the U.S. is forced into default on its loans and can no longer pay for its programs or employees.
But maybe instead of continually raising the debt limit in order to pay for more and more government programs and spending, members of Congress should be more responsible for those Americans, who are yet to be born, who are ultimately going to have to pay for all that spending.
